These photographs are from the Klang Valley which is a busy part of Malaysia not too far from the capital. Kuala Lumpur. Roads are how most people get around in much of Malaysia and these sometimes claustrophobic views were from my passenger seat when.I was mostly taking local journeys for shopping or other everyday things. Using a 28mm and 40mm lens meant that I repetitively framed and fragmented similar views across the dashboard or out from the passenger side window. Over several weeks I started seeing the same places and everyday activities of the other road users and that’s when the series started to take shape..
The title pays homage to the wonderful Lee Friedlander series, America by Car but another influence was Sunday to Sunday by my photographer friend, David Killeen. .
